Ellen Cochrane is a teacher, writer, and politician with more than 20 years experience. Her writing career includes numerous articles on mental health, environmentalism and teaching. She also has an urban wildlife column. She is currently working on a young adult non-fiction title for Hachette Book Group.

Ellen began her career working at the American Embassy in Moscow as a Cultural Department Attaché. In Moscow she was awarded a bonus for outstanding work and improved her Russian language skills. Back in the States, Ellen went to work as an Editor for the California Attorney General where she worked on publications including the department’s biennial report.

A love of languages and cultures led her to become a public-school teacher specializing in English language learners, Russian and Spanish. She managed both state and federal programs that supported the immigrant communities. During her teaching career she was twice selected as one of the district’s most influential teachers. Ellen was also elected to as a School Board Trustee in Sacramento, CA.

When she’s not writing you can find her on her bike or paddling her kayak.
