because this is not a feature made and useful for home users, since your IP is dynamic (unless you have a server running), you have more chances to be compromised from a weaponized file than via a remote attack trying to bypass your router then your computer’s security.

That’s not surprising. Basic port protection is usually a firewall function, and Emsi products don’t have their own firewall; they use the Windows firewall. So you might want to check the Windows Firewall resources about protection from port scans.

In addition, many Emsi users connect to the ‘Net through a router. For people who connect to the ‘Net through a router, the useful port protection would be the outward-facing protection provided by the router firewall, and I don’t think that Emsi makes any router products. As a matter of fact, stealthing or even sealing of the inward-facing ports of the firewall can be an enormous pain in the ***. I should know, I accidentally did it and had a very badly functioning home network until I fixed it. Today.

Packet checking on the inside of the network can be useful. I think I have it on my system (I use a different product), and Emsi may do it for all I know. I suppose a behavior blocker could detect SOME suspicious port scans from inside the network, but any job you give to the behavior blocker adds a significant burden on system resources.

Just my 2 cents. Machine does not make change.

I just checked with PC Mag. They did vanilla Windows and did not rate it too well vs others free or paid. It is dated February 2018 so it is not an old review. For free they gave an Editor’s choice to Avast Free Antivirus and AVG AntiVirus Free. You probably can’t drop a link here so do a search for “PC Mag The Best Security Suites of 2018” and 3 headlines down that review there will be a “Windows Defender? Nope” with a link to the test they performed.
If you search “The Best Antivirus Protection of 2018” you get their rating for paid products.
Remember, above I did say providing the person using it has been taught computer security 101 and does not click on everything and open (and execute) every link in an email.
I use Norton on this reading PC plus another but have Emsisoft on my workhorse.

Then to them I suggest Avast Free Antivirus and AVG AntiVirus Free even though Avast has acquired AVG. It has earned PC Mag Editor’s choice for free AV.

… yes? Look up the income in Romania… then to that I’ll add that I personally have none. So notice even pennies (or “bani”, more accurately).
Then think of all the people and parts of the world that have it even worse, far worse for plenty.

I’m sorry to hear you had poor support three years ago. We’re not perfect, but what you describe happening should not be an issue anymore. It sounds like you’re happy with your current product, but if you decide to give us a try again, we’ll be here for you.

On the contrary, if you have a crappy bank account, then use excellent AV I should say! :) And about Microsoft, since their Fall Creators update their security is less crappy then you’ld think…
