Windows Defender doesn’t detect Unwanted Programs (PUPs) at all and lacks a good Behavior Blocker for brand new threats. It’s meant to be a very basic protection only. Basic in terms of it focuses on the most wide spread threats, but not on the millions of customized attacks on individual machines. It’s certainly better than nothing but still far away from the average level of well-established antivirus vendors.

Not really. Windows Defender has a lower detection rate than “real” antiviruses, in virtually every test.

Antivirus software is your safety net for those (hopefully) rare situations.”

Is Windows Defender not enough for such situations?
