Most likely the original and the encrypted file are not of the same version. The same name perhaps, but if the file was edited at all between being backed up and being encrypted, the pair will not work. If you like, you can email support@emsisoft.com and I can try to give you a bit more help. (This is clearly for others having the same problem, since your post is 10 months old) :)

I’m actually looking for the source at the moment for a school paper (Evolution of Malware, 1995-2015). Seems no one wants to share. We’ll have to reverse it from elsewhere most likely to even get an idea.
